PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Repairs to a water main break continue into the second month along Third and Arch streets and business owners say they are feeling the financial pinch.

Sara Crouser works at Benjamin Lovell on Third and Arch streets and says for smaller businesses like hers, street closures and detours due to the water main break repairs really hurt them.

"I have no idea what the time frame is, we're at the mercy of the city," Crouser said.

Repairs began at the end of January, and business owners say they were told by the city that repairs would take about three weeks to a month. Near the middle of March now, the city says repairs should be completed by the end of the month, but business owners say that's still too long.

"It's like the wild west out there. You have to pay for parking, and I got a $76 ticket," said Erin, a customer who recently visited the area.

Phillip with BONeJour Pet Supply is fed up.

"We can't have anyone on the street, we can't get deliveries. It's really a financial struggle," he said.

And he's not sure how long local businesses can hold on.

"Even one of our other businesses said she may have to close her business because of this if it lasts any longer than this," he added.

The city says if the date of completion changes, they will contact business owners.
