PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A snowy day means extra work for some people in the Delaware Valley. For others, it means they get to play.
Belmont Plateau in Fairmount Park is always a popular place for people looking for some wintertime fun.
What may have been a run-of-the-mill snow day for most was a pretty special moment for Connie Tichenor and her 2-year-old granddaughter Violet, who were there sledding.
"I love being outside, I love being active," Tichenor said. "This is Violet's first time, so this is kind of like — what a thrill."

February 11, 2019 Richard Cohen, a Philly native who's lived in San Diego for the last 30 years, is in town visiting his mom.
"I got the first run at the Belmont Plateau," said Richard Cohen. "If you look and see, that's a virgin sled run right there."
He used the snow day as an opportunity to bust out his Flexible Flyer sled from the 1960s.
"I love it. I love the snow," he said. "As long as there's not black ice, I'm good. When there is snow, I'll shovel my neighbor's yard and everything. I just love playing in it."

February 11, 2019 Cohen says he plans on getting the most of the snow before he heads back out west.
"If it snows again, I'll build a snowman for mom before I leave," he said.
The snow at Belmont Plateau also played host to kids having snowball fights, families making snow angels, and photographers looking to get a good picture of the Philadelphia skyline.

February 11, 2019 Rob said he just had to stop by on his way to work.
"For a photographer looking for new shots, it's perfect," he said. "On a wintry day like this, it's just jackpot."
