Lifeguards in Stone Harbor are getting a planned pay raise of $55 more per day this summer. A starting guard will make $155 per day.
The raise will be voted on by borough council next week.
"We feel it needs to be moved up to make it more attractive," beach patrol captain Sandy Bosacco told NBC10.
He hopes the pay hike will make finding qualifying guards easier this year.
"And the last summer, it reached the tipping point. We actually would have less applicants than openings," he added.
Bosacco says the high cost of housing in Stone Harbor is a factor in the poor turnout of applicants.
Avalon is planning to increase its pay for beach patrol members.
