PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police in South Jersey announced a shocking discovery after a Halloween event.

According to Middle Township police, a parent found what was believed to be a bag of heroin while checking their child's candy bag after an event.

The child was at a Trunk or Treat event Friday in Cape May County at the Shore Family Success Center. Police said this was the only incident reported and that the Middle Township Police Patrol and Major Crimes Units have begun an investigation. They have also asked anyone with any information to contact them.

The child did not ingest the substance.

Authorities said the bag is currently being tested.

The police also took the opportunity to remind parents to always check their child's candy bags for anything out of the ordinary.
