Jeff Vasser, executive director of the New Jersey Division of Travel and Tourism, said the new site gives residents and visitors a menu of all the state has to offer.
“Food and beverage makes up over a quarter of our total visitors’ spending over the course of the year, and it’s the second-largest tourism sector that there is after lodging,” said Vasser. “So, it’s a very important component to our entire tourism industry.”
Vasser said Taste NJ is aimed at two groups: locals and out-of-towners.
"What we wanted to do was inspire our local residents to support their local restaurants, wineries and breweries,” Vasser said. “And to pique the interest of our out-of-state visitors, that they can virtually experience New Jersey’s rich and diverse culinary scene and, hopefully, that will perhaps inspire them to really come here once all of the restrictions are lifted.”
He said for those who live in New Jersey who might still be a bit cautious about going out to eat, the site contains listings for restaurants, breweries and wineries that are offering curbside pickup and delivery.
Vasser said with travel restrictions being lifted, he’s hoping traffic will begin picking up and tourists will consult Taste NJ as a planning tool for their upcoming stay.
