PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) -- Temple University is warning students and staff about an outbreak of the mumps at the school.
Temple's Student Health Service Department says at least four students have tested positive for the highly-infectious disease and at least 11 others have symptoms.
There is concern about the spread of the disease because students have already left for spring break.
An infected person can spread the virus by coughing, sneezing, talking and sharing drinks or utensils with others.
Symptoms often include tender swollen glands below the ear and along the jawline, on one or both sides of the face and neck, fever and headaches.
There is no treatment for mumps, only relief of symptoms.
Officials say people with symptoms should stay home, isolate themselves, avoid travel and limit contact with others for five days from the first sign of symptoms.
As for which precautions to take, officials say it's best to cover your mouth, wash hands frequently and avoid sharing food and drinks.
