In a statement, Temple President Richard Englert said those classes will be conducted online during that period.
Englert said that students will not be going into classrooms until Friday, September 11 at the earliest. Only classes deemed essential by the dean of a school or college will be held in person for the next two weeks. Students will be notified directly if that applies to them.
The university reported 58 active COVID-19 cases on Friday, but that number jumped to 103 over the weekend, said Eglert in his statement. Most students who tested positive are asymptomatic, though a small number have mild to moderate symptoms.
Spikes in coronavirus cases have become a concern at local colleges and universities lately, with small social gatherings cited as a reason, prompting the Philadelphia Department of Health to revise their guidance regarding those events. Officials are asking students to refrain from all social gatherings outside of their homes, regardless of how few people attend.
The university said they will assess the situation during the next two weeks to determine the best path going forward.
