PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Star Wars fans upset they can't get together with friends in person to celebrate May the 4th and Revenge of the 5th don't have to turn to the dark side.
Like almost everything else, you'll just have to celebrate online instead this year.
Keystone Comic Con and Reedpop have teamed up to make sure the Force is still with fans who can't go far, far away from their homes right now.
"The ability to live-tweet and talk with other people virtually is a great way to make new friends in the community," said Rivera, "to relive your favorite moments, to really just dive deep into the things that makes the Star Wars community so special."
Let's face it, if you celebrate Star Wars Day, you've seen all the movies already, probably more than once, and you may have been marathoning all of The Clone Wars in anticipation for the finale. But Rivera said even so, this will provide a unique viewing experience.
"I think it's a really great experience for people to reach out and to really talk about the things they love about the movies," she said, "and just bring some kind of joy in these moments is a fun experience the fans will be able to have."
Normally on May the 4th you'll see people roaming around Philadelphia and other cities wearing a Chewbacca costume, Boba Fett helmet or Darth Vader mask. That won't (or at least shouldn't!) happen this year, but Rivera doesn't want you to put your favorite character's props away just yet.
"We definitely still want people to dress up, share your pictures across social media," she said. "We still want to be able to have that community experience that's important to Star Wars fans."
This virtual Star Wars Day will also include live interviews with voice actors and authors, plus video game live streams and trivia. That information can be found at the link above as well.
Enjoy May the 4th this year you will.
