KYW To-Do List: Fireworks, dance parties and more things to do on New Year’s Eve

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — It’s not too late to plan your New Year’s Eve outings.

ATTRACTIONS

TIME: 6 p.m. and midnight

WHERE: Delaware River Waterfront, Philadelphia

DETAILS: Everything is better in twos. Ring in 2020 with the “Fun and Games” and “Rollin on the River”-themed fireworks displays along the waterfront. The 6 p.m. and midnight shows will simulcast on KYW Newsradio’s air. You will be able to see the fireworks at a variety of parties along the Waterfront, like Cherry Street Pier (see below), Blue Cross RiverRink Winterfest (see below), Battleship New Jersey, Independence Seaport Museum, Spirit of Philadelphia, Moshulu and more. 

PRICE: Free to watch; some venues may have entrance fees

 

EVENT: Parties at Cherry Street Pier

TIME: 5 p.m. and 10 p.m.

WHERE: Cherry Street Pier, Philadelphia

DETAILS: Ring in the new year on the Cherry Street Pier! A family-friendly party will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. There's also a 21-and-older party that kicks off at 10 p.m. 

PRICE: $25; ticket includes a hot chocolate for the 5 p.m. party and a beer for the 10 p.m. party.

 

EVENT: Parties on Ice at Blue Cross RiverRink Winterfest

TIME: 5 p.m. and 10 p.m.

WHERE: Blue Cross RiverRink, Philadelphia

DETAILS: The annual Parties on Ice at Blue Cross RiverRink Winterfest feature live entertainment, snacks, and a cash bar. Tickets for the ice skating are sold out, but you can still get in on the parties to catch the fireworks.

PRICE: $35

 

EVENT: New Year’s Eve '80s and '90s Throwback Dance Party

TIME: 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

WHERE: Ghost Light Inn, 50 S. Main St., New Hope

DETAILS: Spend the last night of 2019 on the dance floor. Your $65 ticket gets you into the ‘80s and ‘90s groove with tunes to match, a disco ball, two drink tickets, a late-night menu, and a champagne toast at midnight. 

PRICE: $65

 

EVENT: New Year’s Eve Ball Drop

TIME: 11 pm. to 1 a.m.

WHERE: Spasso Italian Grill, 1 W. State St., Media

DETAILS: You don’t need to go to New York City to watch an actual ball drop on New Year’s Eve. Right outside Spasso Italian Grill, there will be outdoor performance by Philly Gumbo, a band with New Orleans-style music, before the ball drops.

EVENT: Drake Night: So Far Gone — New Year’s Eve Edition

TIME: 9 p.m. to 2 a.m.

WHERE: The Fillmore, 29 E. Allen St., Fishtown

DETAILS: “Let’s celebrate with a toast and get lost in tonight.” Ring in a new decade the way Drake would want it. 

PRICE: $25 to $35

 

EVENT: Countdown2Noon

TIME: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; ball drops at 12 and 1 p.m.

WHERE: Please Touch Museum, 4231 Avenue of the Republic, West Philadelphia

DETAILS: For the young ones who may have trouble staying up until midnight, Please Touch Museum will count down early. There will be live music, a countdown performance and a traditional New Year’s Eve ball drop.

PRICE: $25 for general public; $5 for members

 

SHOWS AND CONCERTS

TIME: shows at 7, 9 and 11 p.m.

WHERE: Chris’ Jazz Cafe, 1421 Sansom St., Center City

DETAILS: New Olreans’ Chelsea Reed and her big band return to the jazz cafe for a night of ‘20s and ‘30s swing. 

PRICE: $35 per show

 

EVENT: New Year’s Eve with The Philadelphia Orchestra

TIME: 7:30 p.m.

WHERE: Verizon Hall, 300 S. Broad St., Center City

DETAILS: Conductor Bramwell Tovey returns to the Kimmel Center for a packed program of music to bring in the new year.

PRICE: Tickets start at $55

 

EVENT: NYE Blowout with West Philadelphia Orchestra and Johnny Showcase

TIME: Doors open at 8 p.m., show begins at 9 p.m.

WHERE: Underground Arts, 1200 Callowhill St., Philadelphia

DETAILS: The full lineup to this New Year’s Eve concert includes West Philadelphia Orchestra, Johnny Showcase & The Mystic Ticket, Muscle Tough, and Taylor Kelly. 

PRICE: $40
