PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Philadelphia Inquirer has reported the top editor and vice president at the paper is stepping down.

According to the report, Senior Vice President and Executive Editor Stan Wischnowski has handed in his resignation after 20 years of working for the newspaper. His last day will be June 12.

Publisher and CEO Lisa Hughes released a statement saying they are going to take this time "to look both internally and externally for a seasoned leader who embodies our values, embraces our shared strategy, and understands the diversity of the communities we serve."

Earlier this week, a headline which read "Buildings Matter, Too" rocked the paper, and led to a reporter sick out protest and blasts from community leaders.

"Stan Wischnowski has decided to step down as Senior Vice President and Executive Editor and to move on to the next chapter of his career," wrote Hughes. "We thank Stan for his 20 years with the Philadelphia Inquirer, a decade as executive editor, and nearly three decades of service in journalism."
