PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Vets On Wheels kicks off this month in Camden, and it's a way to mingle in the community and feed your pets.

"Food is a wonderful thing, it builds camaraderie and makes everyone happy when they waiting," said Animal Welfare Association's Maya Richmond.

Richmond says there will be plenty of food for animal owners and their pets when Vets on Wheels gets into gear March 27 at Camden's Yorkshire Square.

"The food that we're providing is going to be free, some of the flea and tick products will be free. The vaccines, it will be $5 for a vaccine for a pet," she said.

There's also free microchipping.

The program not only helps people who can't afford to take their pets get checkups, it also gives community members a chance to check in with each other.

"We're out there meeting the people and because we really commit ourselves to a community, we go back and still revisit a neighborhood and the next two blocks over and the next two blocks over," Richmond added.
