West Chester improved to 3-0 on the season this past weekend with a 29-0 home win over Seton Hill. The Golden Rams' defense was in top form in this game, as it held the Griffins to just 112 yards of total offense and eight first downs.
"We're watching a lot of young guys who we've been playing just get better and better each week," West Chester head coach Bill Zwaan said. "So that's really fun to watch those guys as they improve. But our kids were really flying around defensively. Seton Hill is still trying to build some things on their offense, but our guys did a really nice job, especially up front. Our front six guys, our four defensive linemen and linebackers are really playing well right now."
Through three games this season, the West Chester defense has allowed a total of 21 points.
On Saturday, the Golden Rams will visit a Millersville team that is 1-2. After a season-opening win over Pace, the Marauders have lost their last two games to two nationally-ranked teams in IUP and Slippery Rock by a combined score of 103-0.
J.C. Morgan is in his second year as Millersville's coach and Zwaan thinks he has the Marauders headed in the right direction.
"They are going to keep getting better," he said. "I like some of the the talent that he has. They play hard. They are excited. You watch them on the sidelines, they are jumping up and down on the sidelines even in the tougher times that they're having. So I think it's going to be a tough game."
Last season, West Chester beat Millersville at home, 42-16.
Saturday's game kicks off at noon.
