Now, a West Philadelphia artist is paying tribute to the hip-hop superstar — and trying to set a world record in the process.
Michael OG Law Ta'Bon painted a mural on a cape of Hussle, who was shot and killed in March outside his clothing store in Los Angeles. He was 33.
"Batman, Superman, James Brown — they got some long capes," Ta'Bon said. "But this cape right here is about 70 feet long."
He said the cape, which is also adorned with inspirational quotes, is his way of showing how Hussle was a superhero to so many people.
But he's not finished.
Ta'Bon plans on expanding the cape to more than 170 feet, setting a world record in the process.
"We gathered so far 3,000 signatures," he said. "We went from Philly to New York, touched a couple spots in Jersey. We're on our way to Delaware, Maryland, D.C., and then we're going to work our way to LA, gathering signatures of people in support to end the violence that took Nipsey Hussle."
When Ta'Bon gets to LA, he'll present the cape to the Hussle's Marathon Clothing company.
"Let us take our freedom and do the best we can to make this world a better place," he said. "It's our turn to take this baton and continue this marathon."
