Gov. Wolf to veto business-reopening bills headed to his desk

HARRISBURG, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — As the struggle between Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf and the Republican-controlled legislature continues over restarting Pennsylvania’s economy, lawmakers have now sent three more bills on reopening businesses to Wolf’s desk, where his spokeswoman says they will be vetoed. 

The bills passed the state House Thursday after Senate approval Wednesday. 

One of the bills on the way to the governor would reopen certain businesses — including car dealers, lawn and garden centers, barber shops and salons. A separate bill would allow real estate sales to resume. 

Most House Democrats, including Jordan Harris of Philadelphia, voted against those bills. 

“It’s offensive to continue to hear about the economy when we are still losing lives in Pennsylvania,” Harris said.

But more than a dozen House Democrats did vote for each of those two bills. 

A third bill going to the governor would give counties authority to reopen businesses — that bill passed in a more party line vote. 

In an interview with KYW Newsradio, Wolf, who previously vetoed business reopening legislation, indicated these new bills would not get his support either.

“The ones I’ve seen, no,” he said.
