PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — It was an emotional testimony Tuesday as a boy testified he saw his mother kill her boyfriend inside their Fishtown apartment nearly two years ago.
Former real estate agent Jeanette Wakefield listened on as her 12-year-old son tearfully told the judge his mom shot Terry Corrigan, because the 33-year-old victim called the boy a derogatory name.
The child said the pair had a fight earlier that September night over watching an Angelina Jolie movie.
Wakefield is charged with murder and has waived her jury trial, so now Judge Scott O'Keefe will decide whether the shooting is first- or third-degree murder or voluntary manslaughter.
The child, who was 10 at the time, said Corrigan was banging on the door to the apartment around 3 a.m.
Tearfully, he recalled his mom got a gun and shot Corrigan.
The victim's aunt testified she was on the phone with Wakefield that night and heard two shots. She said Wakefield never screamed, but calmly got off the phone to call 911.
She said Corrigan had a drug problem and Wakefield was supposed to take him to rehab the next day.
Homicide detectives are expected to take the stand in the morning.
