Cherri Gregg is the community affairs reporter for KYW Newsradio.
She reports on a variety of public affairs and social justice-related issues. She is also the host and executive producer of Flashpoint with Cherri Gregg, a weekly public affairs show that airs on seven Entercom radio stations in the Philadelphia region. She also produces the Flashpoint podcast, which has exclusive content.
But Gregg is a rarity within the world of journalism: She is also a licensed attorney. She puts her law degree to work at KYW, providing analysis and extensive coverage on many highly publicized community legal issues. Gregg spent months covering the implementation of Pennsylvania’s voter ID law and has reported on the U.S. Supreme Court’s rulings on the Affordable Care Act, same-sex marriage, immigration reform, juvenile justice, the criminal justice system, and other community issues. You can also find Gregg on NBC10 Philadelphia providing commentary from time to time.
As an award-winning journalist, one of Gregg’s missions is to highlight diverse perspectives, positive people and cultural events in the greater Philadelphia area. She launched an original 10-day Black History Month series for KYW Newsradio, called Philadelphia GameChangers. The series, which celebrated its seventh year at The Met Philadelphia in 2019, highlights individuals and organizations making a positive impact in the African-American community.
Gregg has a Bachelor of Science from Boston University, a J.D. from Howard University School of Law, and an M.J. from Temple University’s College of Communications and Theater. She is a past president of the Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists (PABJ).
Gregg was named one of The Philadelphia Tribune’s Most Influential Leaders in 2016, one of the Philadelphia NAACP’s Most Influential Black Women, and PABJ’s Journalist of the Year in 2019.
Gregg believes in living with passion and is frequently asked to moderate and speak on panels, emcee events and give speeches on how to put one’s dreams into action.
