PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Creative Halloween pet costumes get more and more elaborate each year, but it's important to consider their comfort and safety too.
As obvious as it sounds, Dr. Ken Drobatz, professor of emergency medicine at Penn Vet, said costumes must be pet-friendly.
"First of all, make sure that the costume does not restrict them," he said. "Make sure they are comfortable with it. Make sure they're not upset, or if they don't like it, they really shouldn't have them.
"And, these costumes could be quite flammable. So if a pet is wearing a costume around a burning candle in a pumpkin, it can create problems."
According to SEMrush, a data trends provider, the top Halloween-related Google searches revolve around dog Halloween costumes. The top five costumes are Chucky, Baby Yoda, spiders, Batman and dinosaurs.
