BLACK HISTORY
Through Sunday, visit Smith Memorial Playground’s inaugural “Leaders and Legends of North Philadelphia” exhibition, celebrating notable African-American leaders in activism, arts, education and more. Bring the family and quiz the kids.
BlackStar LIVE! celebrates the last of its Black History Month series Friday night with Hank Willis Thomas, a performance from April + Vista, and a short film by Rashida Bumbray.

Black History Month programming at the African-American Museum wraps up this month with a special partnership with journalist and filmmaker Sofiya Ballin as she debuts her latest documentary project “Black History Untold: Love” Saturday at 5 p.m. Couples from Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., and New York share personal insights and their love stories, highlighting the power of Black love throughout history.
“Marian: The American Story,” a new exhibition at The Marian Anderson Museum and Historical Society, opens Saturday morning. This exhibition focuses on the life of the late singer as an artist and humanitarian through a virtual tour.
Cook alongside renowned Chef Elijah Milligan on Friday. Founder of Cooking for the Culture — a platform designed to elevate and highlight Black culinary professionals — Milligan provides a free grocery and equipment list to follow along with him in a prerecorded dinner cooking demo to celebrate Black history and culture.
LUNAR NEW YEAR
All weekend, take in all that Chinatown has to offer in a free, open-air scavenger hunt for all ages. Scan QR codes and solve hints to find Chinatown landmarks and destinations. The event guides you through its vibrant history as not only a foodie destination but as a place of community and culture.
Celebrate the Year of the Ox at Philadelphia Chinatown Development Corporation’s Chinese New Year virtual celebration on Friday. The event is free and you can register online in advance.
