‘Phantom’ in the cemetery, feminist flea market, and more things to do in Philly this weekend

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — This weekend, check out a feminist flea market in Old City, watch movies old and new in Philadelphia’s park, or enjoy some of the last opportunities of summer fun.

EVENT: Cinema at the Cemetery

DATE/TIME: Saturday, 8 p.m.

WHERE: Laurel Hill Cemetery, 2400 Strawberry Mansion Drive, Fairmount Park

DETAILS: Laurel Hill Cemetery’s movie series comes to a close with 1929’s “The Phantom of the Opera” and a live musical accompaniment by Not So Silent Cinema. Pack a picnic and tell a friend for a movie night in a spooky setting.

EVENT: Movies in Clark Park

DATE/TIME: Friday, 7 p.m.

WHERE: Clark Park, 4300 Baltimore Ave., West Philadelphia

DETAILS: Based on the book “Ghetto Cowboy,” you may see some familiar scenes at this screening of “Concrete Cowboy,” as it was filmed in Strawberry Mansion and based on the real-life Fletcher Street Stables. To help movie-goers feel more comfortable, there are three types of seating with one including fully vaccinated folks.

EVENT: Germantown Plays Pericles

DATE/TIME: Saturday and Sunday; pre-show fair begins at 5:30 p.m.

WHERE: Vernon Park, 5800 Germantown Ave., Germantown

DETAILS: Shakespeare’s “Pericles” will be utilized as a launching point for two evenings of interactive art installations, games, music, mutual aid and more. The fair ends with a performance, beginning at 7 p.m.

EVENT: Feminist Flea Market and Craft Fair

DATE/TIME: Friday, 6 to 10 p.m.

WHERE: Cherry Street Pier, 121 Columbus Blvd., Old City

DETAILS: More than 40 vendors will be selling everything from vintage accessories to handmade clothing at this market by and for women, trans, non-binary and gender non-conforming folx. Donations made at the market will help benefit a mutual aid initiative based in Point Breeze.

PRICE: $5 suggested donation

EVENT: Free From Fest: Vegan and Gluten-Free Food and Beverage Market

DATE/TIME: Sunday, 12 to 4 p.m.

WHERE: Old Pine Community Center, 401 Lombard St., Queen Village

DETAILS: Come out to Philadelphia’s first vegan and gluten-free craft food and beverage market for an afternoon experience that everyone can enjoy. There will also be an outdoor cider and cocktail garden.

EVENT: Main Line Restaurant Week

DATE: Through Sept. 5

DETAILS: Dine somewhere along the Main Line that you have never been to. Participating restaurants are offering three-course prix fixe menus, three-course lunch menus, or both.

EVENT: PHL Unity Cup

WHERE: Various locations in Philadelphia

DETAILS: The Philadelphia Unity Cup is back with a U.S.-England kickoff game. More than two dozen games will be played all weekend long, so check the schedule for more info on where and when they’re happening.
