This weekend in Philly: Fairhill fashion show, Made American Street festival and more

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — This weekend in Philly, dress up and show out at Taller Puertoriqueño’s annual spring fashion show fundraiser. Sip on local brews and snack on delicious BBQ at the American Street Festival in North Philly. And, soak up the sun and have fun at the immersive, yet eventful Play Day in University City.

El Fashion Show

DATE/TIME: Friday, May 19 from 6:30 to 9 p.m.

WHERE: Taller Puertoriqueño,  2600 N 5th St., North Philadelphia

DETAILS: Who says you need to go to Paris for Fashion Week? While it is technically not a weeklong affair, Taller Puertoriqueño’s annual spring fundraiser highlights local designers of all ages. There will also be new collections by various local Latinx designers like Buenas Vibras

Apparel and Las Divas del Monte collective. Looks will be inspired by weathered Puerto Rican flags and peeling paint from Fairhill buildings – embodying timelessness and pride.

Made on American Street Festival

EVENT: Made on American Street Festival
DATE/TIME: Saturday, May 20 from 2 to 6 p.m.

WHERE: North American Street between Master and Cecil B Moore, North Philadelphia

DETAILS: For the adults, join the Homegrown Beer Fest. There will be a bunch of beer, wine and cider from spots throughout the city, like Punch Buggy Brewing, Gritty City Winery, Original 13 Ciderworks and more! Along with live music, there will also be BBQ, sandwiches, hotdogs, and lemonade from different restaurants. Tickets include unlimited alcohol tasting from local vendors, a limited edition tasting glass and mini golf.

Play Day

EVENT: Play Day
DATE/TIME: Saturday, May 20 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

WHERE: Sister Cities Park, 210 N 18th St., University City

DETAILS: Laugh and learn at this fun, yet immersive event for kids of all ages. There will be mystifying bubble magic shows, Spanish lessons, live music and storytimes. Events will be happening all throughout the day, so pop in and pick the one you like best or try them all!

Children’s Festival

EVENT: Children’s Festival
DATE/TIME: Saturday, May 20 through Monday, May 22 with varying times

WHERE: Annenberg Center, 3680 Walnut St., University City

DETAILS: Celebrate the power of silent storytelling by joining a mime troupe on an adventure through the jungle, spooky sleepovers, carnivals and more! There will be superheroes, robots and a helpful speaking emcee to guide audiences through this interactive and time-traveling journey of the imagination. There will be live ASL performances and Saturday’s show includes a sensory-friendly performance, so everyone can join in on the fun.

River Rink Summerfest

WHERE: Delaware River Waterfront, 101 South Columbus Blvd., Old City

DETAILS: Philadelphia’s favorite summertime tradition is back! Think outdoor roller skating, boardwalk games and rides, mini golf, and great food and drinks. And did we mention the view?

City Hall Roller Rink

EVENT: City Hall Roller Rink
DATE/TIME: April 21 through July 18

WHERE: Dilworth Park, 1 S. 15th St., City Hall

DETAILS: The rink is open seven days a week, and throughout the season there will be different events like Rewind at the Rink, Christmas and July, Pride Skate, and so much more!

PRICE: $8 for children 10 and under, and $10 for everyone else with an additional $6 per skate rental

Andalusia Historic House, Gardens & Arboretum

EVENT: Andalusia Historic House, Gardens & Arboretum
DATE/TIME: April 1 through Nov. 3

WHERE: 1237 State Rd., Bucks County

DETAILS: Andalusia Historic House is open for the season, and that means a slice of nature for the city folks. Guests can do self-guided tours to smell the crab apple trees, and see fields of daffodils, magnolias, Virginia bluebells and more! There will be six Open Saturday events throughout the season which feature special public programs like garden walks, a garden photography day, and a local river celebration.
