EVENT: Boo at the Zoo
DATE: Through Oct. 31
WHERE: Philadelphia Zoo, 3400 W. Girard Ave., West Philadelphia
DETAILS: Trick or treat among the tigers, elephants and giraffes with Boo at the Zoo. There will be plenty of photo opportunities, candy and festive fall offerings. Don’t forget to wear your costume.

EVENT: Día De Los Muertos kick-off
DATE/TIME: Friday, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
WHERE: LOVE Park, 1600 JFK Blvd., Center City
DETAILS: Philly’s Day of the Dead Celebration kicks off at LOVE Park with an inauguration of the “Entrance to the Underworld” altar, created by Mexican artist and muralist Cesar Viveros. There will also be cultural performances by musical group “Los Guachinangos” and dance performers “Calpulli Kamastle Xiuhcoatl.” The alter will be on display until Nov. 2.

EVENT: The Great Pumpkin Carve
DATE: Thursday through Saturday
WHERE: Chadds Ford Historical Society, 1736 Creek Road, Chadds Ford
DETAILS: The three-day Chadds Ford tradition is back in person, where more than 70 giant pumpkins are carved and displayed by local artists. The pumpkins will be carved on Thursday, then lit and displayed Friday and Saturday.
PRICE: $15 for adults, $5 for kids ages 7-17, free for kids under 6

DETAILS: The Philadelphia Ballet kicks off its 58th season and welcomes back its audience for in-person performances with the concert series “The Spark.” The program is reflective of the time period of when it was created, and the intimate setting of the venue “will highlight the electricity that exists between performer and patron.”

WHERE: Along Germantown Avenue in Chestnut Hill
DETAILS: Night of Lights is back for its fifth year along Germantown Avenue. Historical images from Chestnut Hill Conservancy become an interactive display of art and history for viewers and historic buildings along the avenue also be illuminated. Additional events including local restaurants adding local historic foods to their menus will also be available.

EVENT: Delaware Valley Memorial 9/11 Virtual Stair Climb
DATE/TIME: Sunday, October 17 starting at 8:15 a.m.

DETAILS: You can watch the ceremonies live on Facebook from the Philadelphia Fire Academy as speakers from the Philadelphia Fire Department, FDNY and Second Alarmers share their stories of survival and remembrance. Our own Michelle Durham, a Philadelphia Fire Academy Graduate, will be the Master of Ceremonies. This event will also honor the memory of Philadelphia Fire Lieutenant Richard Benditt, who died of a 9/11-related illness. Participants will walk, bike or climb from wherever they are, and all will pause at 8:46 a.m. and 9:03 a.m. as we remember the exact moments planes struck the Twin Towers in 2001.
