PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Brandon Matthews was a standout golfer at Temple University who is currently competing on the PGA Tour Latinoamerica.
The 26-year-old Matthews has enjoyed success as a pro. Just last month, he won a tournament in the Dominican Republic. Golf has been a part of his life for a long time.
"Earliest golf memory is from the first house I ever lived in, Duryea, Pennsylvania," he recalled. "I remember with my grandfather, grandmother and my parents, just hitting plastic golf balls with plastic clubs when I was really young. That had to be under four years old, really."
Matthews talked about having the right mindset to make it as a professional golfer.
"There's a great quote in a book about percentages and how, OK, well if you just missed two 5-footers in a row, your percentages just spiked incredibly to make that next one," he said.
"So if you look at everything in the correct way, instead of, 'Oh God, I just missed two 5-footers, I hope I don't miss the next one,' looking at things in the right way, learning how to mentally approach adversity and then how to overcome that, I think is extremely important."
