PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Mark Ferrante has spent 34 years coaching football at Villanova. Since 2016, he has been the head coach of the Wildcats, leading them to the FCS playoffs in 2019.
Ferrante was a star football player at St. Lawrence University in upstate New York before turning to coaching, a profession he knew was the right fit, right away.
"Once I was in, I'm all in. It's a passion, it's not a job. I don't feel like I've worked a day in my life," he shared.
"It wasn't money, did not pursue this career or once I got into this career decide to stay with this career as long as I have - it had absolutely nothing to do with contracts, money. It has nothing to do with any of that. It’s basically you love what you do, you’re passionate about what you do."
He talked about just what feeds his passion for coaching.
"The main reason I love what I do, I say this all the time and I've said it before, is the relationships with the players and the staff," he explained.
"The relationships you build, staying involved in the sport that you love, that's really what has gotten me into it and has kept me into it this long."
