PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The college basketball season has been underway now for a few weeks and it has been a challenge for every team in the country in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Drexel Dragons have managed to get in four games so far, winning three of them. They have also seen multiple adjustments to their schedule on the fly as a result of the pandemic.

"Coaches, by nature, are creatures of habit and planning," Drexel head coach Zach Spiker told KYW Newsradio. "You want everything mapped out weeks and months in advance and you're just not able to do that. It's got to be fluid. You've got to do what's best from a pandemic standpoint and then try and fit some games in as necessary."

When Drexel University has gotten the chance to play, they have defended very well. In their three wins, they have allowed an average of just 53.3 points per game.

Spiker talked about the defensive success.

"The fact that you've got a few guys in our starting lineup and a number of guys in our program that are in year three, and some year four, that just understand what we've been preaching, what we've been talking about over time," he said. "Certainly, we've tweaked some things based on our personnel and I think that's made us a little bit better, too."

At the other end, Drexel is being led by junior guard Camren Wynter who is averaging a team high 19.8 points per game on 51% shooting from the field. He also paces the team with 22 assists.

Drexel's next game is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 12 against La Salle at the DAC.
