PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Eagles will be in Atlanta on Sept. 12 to take on the Falcons for their season opener, the team announced Wednesday.
They will release the rest of their schedule later in the evening, very likely after several unofficial leaks have found their way to social media. For example:
The Birds have not won in Atlanta since 2009. However, coming off of a four-win season and debuting a new head coach, the Falcons are in a situation very similar to the Eagles.
Atlanta’s rookie tight end, Kyle Pitts, is slated to make his NFL debut against his hometown team. He is a graduate of Archbishop Wood High School in Warminster.
And of course the Falcons have Penn Charter alum Matt Ryan.
The Eagles are facing the AFC West and NFC South this season — which includes hosting Tom Brady’s Buccaneers and Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs. Their non-common games are against San Francisco at home and against Detroit on the road — all last-place teams.
There are 17 games this season instead of 16, adding a road game against the New York Jets.
The league’s Kickoff Game this season will be Brady and the Bucs hosting the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday, Sept. 9.
