PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police are looking for the thieves who stole about $10,000 worth of beef from a truck in Wissinoming Thursday morning.
Police were called about a cargo theft just after 4 a.m. The truck was parked on the 5200 block of Devereaux Street, near the Tacony-Palmyra Bridge.
Investigators said the robbers cut the rear padlock of a trailer and removed five pallets of beef inside.
The driver of the truck was asleep inside and woke up as the heist was happening. The driver took a video with his phone of the thieves getting away in a dark gray Nissan sedan and two dark-colored SUVs.

“They are long-haul truck drivers,” said Capt. John Ryan, commanding officer of the Northeast Detective Division. “They come in in the early-morning hours, they park up, and they have a scheduled delivery time.”
Ryan said thieves look for these vehicles with high-value meats that park overnight.
“We’ve encouraged and had discussions with the trucking industry about them parking in better lit, more public areas,” he said. “Drivers have been assaulted in previous cargo thefts.”
Thursday’s incident comes after another heist Tuesday morning in Southwest Philly. Thieves stole $3,000 worth of frozen snow crab off of a truck near the airport.
Police did not say whether the incidents are connected.
