PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — When it comes to Kansas City players who will have a critical role Sunday night against the Philadelphia Eagles, of course, much of the discussion turns toward Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce. But another member of the offense could be key.

"Rookie receiver Xavier Worthy really has become a top-notch receiver and, you know, a lot of people dismissed the pick at the time because all he was was speed, theoretically. But he never really was just speed,” said Vahe Gregorian, Pennsylvania native and current sports journalist for the Kansas City Star.

He says Worthy is very smart, has evolved in the offense, made a lot of tough catches and knows where to be on the field. And, as Gregorian pointed out, Mahomes really trusts him.

Worthy caught 59 passes during the regular season, including six touchdowns, and added three rushing scores. He's Kansas City’s top postseason pass catcher with 11 receptions, including a score.

Gregorian also noted that Mahomes is 17-3 in postseason games, “by far the best postseason winning percentage of anybody of more than 10 games. Best quarterback rating in NFL history in the postseason.”

And, not to mention, head coach Andy Reid is heading into his sixth Super Bowl — one of which was with the Eagles in 2005 — with 300 wins under his belt.

“So all of that I think speaks to the …. significance of this,” Gregorian said.

The Chiefs are hoping to become the first NFL team to win three straight Super Bowls.
