PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The 16-year-old daughter of KYW traffic anchor Sue Shilling has quite the story to tell.

The next time you see Shilling’s daughter Jessica during Eagles or Phillies season, say hello. There’s a decent chance this resilient, energetic, knowledgeable and loyal fan will respond with a “Go Birds” or “Go Phillies” through an iPad speaking device.

And that’s because Philadelphia sports is a hobby that helps Jessica, who has non-verbal autism, feel included.

“Sports is a way that kind of bonds her with other people that normally she might not have anything in common with, which is a really cool thing,” Shilling said. “She goes through so many challenges throughout the day, and then when she watches sports, she’s like any other kid."

From a young age, Jessica became interested in the Eagles and Phillies, which has turned into watching games, attending pep rallies, enjoying the Eagles' Fight Song and decorating her bedroom walls to celebrate her favorite teams. Plus, Shilling is a well-known Mets fan, which creates a friendly mother-daughter rivalry.

And, one of the Eagles' most iconic accomplishments (Super Bowl LII) led to an inspirational moment for Jessica.
