PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — One of the best Philadelphia Flyers of all time has penned a memoir about his recovery from a stroke.

“My story is about faith and a little bit hockey and my stroke and how I recovered from my stroke because it will give people hope in rehab… So, lots of hints in the book about what I did to make myself better,” said Brian Propp of his recently released story “Angel on My Wing: A Story of Faith, Determination and Courage.”

Propp was a terrific player for the Flyers in the 80s. He was a member of the 1980, 1985 and 1987 teams that went to the Stanley Cup Final. Statistically, he’s Top 5 in many franchise categories, including games played, goals, assists and points.

After 15 years, Propp ended his NHL career in 1994.

About two decades later, in 2015, he suffered a stroke that nearly killed him. Propp talked about how he never lost a tooth during his hockey career but did during this scary ordeal.

The book, which he worked on with longtime hockey writer Wayne Fish, covers his childhood in Canadian province Saskatchewan, as well as his NHL career, but the main purpose is to bring awareness and be a resource for people going through what he experienced with his health.

“It can help a lot of people that have strokes,” said Propp, who added it’s all about giving back and every day is a blessing for him.
