PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Legendary Eagle Fletcher Cox is following Jason Kelce into retirement. The star defensive tackle on Sunday announced on Instagram that he is hanging up his cleats at the age of 33.
Cox, who played all 12 seasons of his NFL career for the Birds, wrote the message to Eagles fans, saying, "There is not a fan base in all of sports as passionate as you." He also thanked his family, team owner Jeffrey Lurie, and other key members of the organization for the roles they played throughout his career, like Kelce, Lane Johnson and Brandon Graham.
And, his was one decorated career. The Mississippi native played 188 games for the Eagles — the third-most of all time behind only Kelce and Graham. He also made six Pro Bowls and was part of the team that won the Super Bowl in 2018.
He ends his career fifth on the Eagles’ all-time sack list with 70.
Over the past few seasons, Cox mentored the next anchors of the team’s defensive line, Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter.
Meanwhile, Graham resigned for his 15th season, and Johnson will enter his 12th next year.
