PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — It might still be September, but Phillies fans are already focused on Red October after the team beat the Pirates Tuesday night in extra innings and secured their spot in the playoffs.
A beautiful Wednesday night had Phillies fans wearing their new sweatshirts and hats — bundled up for a game they can sit back and relax watching in lower temperatures.
The Phillies have clinched the wild card seed and a guarantee to the postseason. And next week can't come fast enough for Phillies fans, when Citizens Bank Park hosts a best-of-three series.
"It's great. They play well in the clutch and hopefully they will continue to do that in the playoffs this year. We'll see," said Bill Cox from South Jersey, one of the many fans at Citizens Bank Park for Wednesday's game.
And fans looking to score tickets can register on the MLB website to get into a drawing for a chance to buy some.
George Falkowski says he isn't strictly a Phillies fan, but he is a fan of good baseball. But don't worry — he was dressed head to toe in Phillies gear.
"Baseball's not like what it used to be. It's get in and get hot. Phillies proved that last year, so let's see them do it again."
There's nothing quite like the playoffs in Philadelphia.
