Philadelphia Phillies rookie outfielder Johan Rojas had one of the most magical moments of his life on Tuesday night, as he hit a walk off single to beat the Pirates and clinch a playoff berth for his team.
To make things even more magical, Phillies manager Rob Thomson says the 23-year-old Dominican outfielder had his family fly in on Monday to watch him play on Tuesday for the first time ever in the United States.
"It's funny because his family just came before the off day on, I guess Monday," Thomson told Joe DeCamara and Jon Ritchie on Wednesday's 94WIP Morning Show. "His family just came in from the Dominican and they never seen him play before in the United States."
Rojas, who signed with the Phils as an international free-agent in 2018, was promoted to the majors from Double-A Reading on July 14th.
In 56 games in the majors, Rojas is slashing an impressive .304/.342/.428 with nine doubles, one triple, two home runs, 22 RBIs. His speed may be his best asset, as Rojas has stolen 14 bases on 15 attempts and has been excellent defensively.
