NEW JERSEY (KYW Newsradio) — Shawn Tucker previously served as vice president for athletic development at his alma mater, Rutgers University. Now, he’s taking on a new role as athletic director at Division III Rowan University.

"Alignment is my word. When you have a president, a provost, and a board with a phenomenal history that Rowan Athletics has, I just look forward to building off the success to do what we need to do to become one of one, and become a premier Division III landscape program that wins championships and continues to develop student athletes to be leaders in life,” he said.

One focus Tucker has is upgrading athletic facilities at Rowan.

"I think one thing is, you always want to make sure that you get the lay of the land, understand the culture, what are some low-hanging fruit that you want to get solved,” he said. “I think the major thing that we want to do is, we've had success, but we don't have the facilities that match that success. So we've got to build and we've got to find the right location here in the Glassboro area where we're going to build up our athletic department."

Tucker played football during his college days at Rutgers, catching 115 passes in his career. He replaces the retired Dr. John Giannini as the new athletic director.
