PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The West Chester University football team entered Saturday's showdown at Shippensburg with a mission to add to their coach's just-accomplished program record.
Golden Rams Head Coach Bill Zwaan picked up his 148th win at West Chester last week with a 21-20 home win over Bloomsburg.
That made him the all-time winningest coach in program history, passing Glenn Killinger.
It is an accomplishment the coach of the 4-1 Golden Rams said means a lot to him.
"I have so many players and coaches and people to thank for getting me here, and I wanted to make sure they know how great an honor it is and how much a piece of it they were a part of," said Zwaan.
"I hope they feel that way, hope they know how much I appreciate them getting me to this point.”
Zwaan has coached at West Chester since 2003.
Prior to that, he enjoyed a successful run as head coach at Division III Widener University. He still owns the best winning percentage for a Widener football coach in program history.
Killinger was the coach at West Chester from 1934-1941 and 1945-1959. He became a member of the College Football Hall of Fame in 1971.
