PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — West Chester University women’s soccer team advanced to the national semifinals.
The Golden Rams are two wins away from a Division II National Championship. On Thursday, they will take on Ferris State University in Seattle.
The Rams are 22-0-1 and in the Final Four for the first time since 2006. They allowed just seven goals this season and shut-out their opponent 16 times.
Head coach Betty Ann Kempf Townsley said she has had a tremendous amount of fun this season watching her team grow and learn.
“Each day never ceases to amaze me, especially with this group. They are just like sponges, they want to learn, they like being together. Each day, every game, they go out, it’s just like, ‘Wow!’ It’s fun to watch them, it’s fun to be around them.”
She feels they exceeded her expectations for how the season would pan out.
“...In August. I did see something in this group that was special, but never to this extent and to how far we could go,” Kempf Townsley said. “I think, for the most part, we have just taken each day as it comes.”
A win on Thursday would advance the Rams to Saturday’s National Championship Game against the winner of the other National Semifinal between Columbus State University and Western Washington University.
