PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Dobbs, the bar and music venue on South Street, is up for lease with a potential for sale. The moves comes after a sexual assault allegation involving an employee earlier this month, which caused a drastic drop in revenue.
A police investigation into the allegation is still active. No one has been charged. But once word got out about the accusation, many bands and booking agents posted on social media about canceling their appearances at the venue and rebooking elsewhere.
A woman said she was sexually assaulted by two employees in the venue after a concert on Feb. 3. Dobbs, in a since-deleted Facebook post, said those employees were fired.
Matt Titus — a real estate broker with Bar Doctors, which specializes in the buying and selling of Philadelphia restaurants and bars — said the owner of Dobbs contacted him to see if there would be an interest in someone else taking over the business.
“He’s selling the bar because his revenues have taken a dip and under the light of the circumstances, he feels that it might be better with a new company involved,” said Titus.
The bar is being listed at $550,000, which includes the liquor license.
The building is being leased for $6,000 a month. However, the owners have listed the building for sale as well.
“We were contacted by Dobbs to put it on the market, to test the market,” he added.
KYW Newsradio’s efforts to reach the owner of Dobbs were unsuccessful.
