With gas prices continuing to reach new heights, making ends meet is requiring Americans to be flexible as they try to stretch their dollars as far as possible.
One way to be more economical entails finding alternative means of getting to work besides driving your beloved gas-guzzling vehicle. In addition to saving money, making your daily commute more sustainable helps the environment by lowering your carbon footprint.
While buying an electric or hybrid vehicle is a fantastic alternative, it is not feasible for everyone. Here are some simpler and less expensive ways to make your work commute more eco-friendly.

Work remotely
Over the last two years, working from home became the norm. Although many businesses have gone back to being in-person, find out if telecommuting is an option for at least part of the week. A hybrid schedule will reduce how much gas you use and lessen the impact on the environment.
Embrace mass transit
For those living in areas where mass transit is available, taking a bus, subway, commuter rail, bike, or walking are great options to explore. In addition to removing the stress of sitting in traffic, you will be able to catch up on reading, listening to those podcasts you’ve been meaning to get to, and even some sleep. Reach out to management to see if they will incentivize mass transit use for employees with prizes or gift cards.

Carpool
Build better business relationships by sharing your commute with a coworker. By ridesharing with a colleague you can help save money and Mother Nature, and also establish network connections with individuals you may not usually interact with on a day-to-day basis. If all goes well, you and your co-workers will be pros at “Carpool Karaoke” in no time!
Stay on top of car maintenance
If driving solo is your only option, make sure your vehicle is as efficient as possible. Get a tune-up and oil change, properly inflate and rotate tires, change air filters, and remove any excess cargo from your trunk that could be weighing down your automobile. Also, make sure you have mapped out the most direct route that avoids unnecessary congestion and allows you to maintain a steady speed with the fewest traffic lights.
