PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A 17-year-old is dead and four others are injured after a shooting in Fairmount Park Friday night.
Around 11 p.m. police were responding to large groups of young people gathering near 33rd Street and Ridge Avenue.
"It seemed to center around an unsanctioned — an unauthorized — block party on the 2400 block of North Hollywood Street," said Deputy Police Commissioner Frank Vanore.
Police say as they were trying to disperse them, a crowd of about 100 people showed up in Fairmount Park. That’s when they say they heard gunshots.
“Officers began to discover that persons here in the park were shot,” said Police Inspector D.F. Pace.
Police say the 17-year-old, later identified as Isya Stanley or, "CeCe," was shot in the chest and shoulder. She was taken to a nearby hospital where she later died. An 18-year-old, a 14-year-old, and two 15-year-olds were also shot. They were all taken to a nearby hospital and are expected to be OK.
Nearly a dozen spent shell casings were found at the scene. Investigators say there are likely more hidden in the grass.
Police say they do not know what caused the shooting or if any of the victims were targeted.
“We just don’t have that information yet. It’s still too early in the investigation,” Pace said.
No weapons have been recovered, and no suspects identified.
A GoFundMe page describes Stanley as “bright and beautiful.” She was expected to attend Morgan State University in the fall.
