PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia police are investigating the shooting death of a 13-year-old boy in North Philadelphia Friday morning.
Police are looking for the people responsible for his death. They say the young boy was sitting in a car with friends around 9 a.m. when another group of people ambushed the car and began shooting.
“When officers arrived,” said Sgt. Eric Gripp, “they came upon an individual that had been shot one time in the chest. He was transported to an area hospital and, unfortunately, he was passed away.”
Gripp said they are looking at the evidence, but they are also worried that others may have been hurt and just haven’t come forward.
“We don’t know if we have anyone else that was hit,” he explained. “There were multiple rounds fired out here, so we are looking to get in touch with these other victims as quickly as possible.”
Neighbors said they heard about six shots at the corner of North Judson and West Clearfield streets.
“It’s devastating,” added neighbor Geanie. “He just turned 13 yesterday.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
