PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A dozen children were taken to the hospital Thursday afternoon following a multi-vehicle crash in Gloucester County.
It happened around 4 p.m. on Tuckahoe Road between Route 322 and Clayton Road in Monroe Township. Police said it involved a school bus, two commercial dump trucks, and two other vehicles.
Investigators said the dump truck was going north on Tuckahoe Road when the driver didn’t notice that traffic had stopped for an Oak Knoll Elementary School bus. The dump truck rear-ended a car with one adult and three kids. One of those kids got trapped in the back and had to be extricated by firefighters.
The car got pushed into another car occupied by a woman, which was then pushed into the school bus with nine children and two adults inside. The bus then hit the back of a different dump truck.
Police said 12 children and two adults were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. Everyone’s either been released or is stable with minor injuries.
The crash is under investigation. Our newsgathering partners at NBC10 said hazmat crews investigated a large fuel spill. No further details have been released.
Parents of Oak Knoll students involved were immediately notified, according to district officials. Counselors will be at the school Friday to assist anyone who needs it.
