MOUNT HOLLY, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — A teenager has been arrested and charged in the shooting death of a man last month in a Mount Holly park.
Officials in Burlington County said a 14-year-old boy was taken into custody for allegedly shooting and killing 25-year-old Andre Ross in Mill Dam Park on Sept. 22, right across the street from where Ross lived.
The defendant has been charged with first-degree murder and second-degree weapons possession offenses. His identity is not being released because of his age.
Ross was a father to a five-year-old girl.
At a vigil for Ross the day after the shooting, his aunt Shanika Ross told KYW Newsradio she would miss his smile the most. “He always told me, ‘Auntie, I love you,’ so that's always going to stick in my head,” she said, adding that it felt like she lost a son.
“He was a good kid. He loved his daughter, he loved his family. He matured a lot once he had his child, and that’s what made me so proud of him.”
Details surrounding the shooting have yet to be released by Burlington County officials.
