PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Two men are in custody after taking Pennsylvania State Police on a brief chase on I-95 in Delaware County over the weekend, ending in a crash that injured two troopers.
Around 1:30 a.m. Saturday, state troopers tried to pull over a red Subaru speeding southbound on I-95 in Tinicum Township. Authorities said the car was stolen.
At first, the driver stopped, but once the troopers got out of their car, he took off.
Other officers laid down spike strips a few miles away to deflate the tires. It worked, authorities said, but the driver kept going for another half-mile before crashing into a state police car.
The officers inside the car were taken to the hospital, treated and released.
The driver, Claren Thomas, and the passenger, Myron Bell, were taken into custody. Officials said they found two guns inside the Subaru — one had a switch attached, making it automatic.
Thomas now faces more than three dozen charges, including aggravated assault, fleeing from police, and firearms offenses. Bell faces conspiracy and firearms offenses.
