PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Two men are injured after separate shootings rang out in North Philadelphia Friday night. Police are investigating whether they are connected.
The first shooting happened around 8:15 p.m. near the intersection of 21st and Gratz streets. That’s where officers found a man who had been shot multiple times.
He was taken to a nearby hospital and is listed in critical condition.
Detectives said the scene was littered with about 20 shell casings. Officers also stopped a vehicle of interest, which is being included in the crime scene.
Less than 20 minutes later, around 8:30 p.m., police said there was another shooting near the intersection of 24th and Elkhart streets. Officers found more than two dozen shell casings at the scene, but no victim.
However, a 23-year-old showed up at a nearby hospital with a gunshot wound to his back not much later. He is expected to be OK.
Given the timing and location of the shootings, Police Inspector DF Pace said the big question is whether they are related.
“We do not know at this time, however, if there is, and we don't have anything conclusive,” Pace said.
No arrests have been made. What led to either shooting is not yet known.
