PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Two more dogs suffering from neglect were found at the home of two women who were caught on video dropping off a pair of critically ill puppies at a North Philadelphia shelter last week.

On Thursday, ACCT Philly received a box with two gravely injured puppies.

“The puppies had what appeared to be a skin condition that had developed into wounds. Those wounds then became maggot-infested,” said Nicole Wilson, director of the PSPCA’s Animal Law Enforcement. They contacted the Pennsylvania SPCA for help.

On Monday, PSPCA executed a search warrant at the home of the believed suspects on West Russell Street near Germantown Avenue. There, they located the suspects, the clothes they were wearing on camera during the drop-off, and two more dogs that had been left outside in the heat.

“They do have some skin issues as well, and signs of fly bites to their ears consistent with dogs that spend excessive amounts of time outside,” Wilson said.

A relative at the home confirmed the dogs belonged to the two women. The dogs were removed from the property and taken to PSPCA for treatment.

Wilson says all four dogs are stable, even the two covered in necrotic wounds.

“We fully believe that they will make a full recovery. Their tails may need to be amputated once they are stable enough, due to the fact that so much damage had been done that they may no longer be functional,” Wilson said.

Wilson said this case emphasizes the importance of keeping pets inside and cool during excessive heat. If you see signs of animal abuse, report it to the PSPCA.

The investigation is ongoing; charges are pending. Anyone with information is urged to call the PSPCA’s Cruelty Hotline at 866-601-7722. Tips can be left anonymously.
