PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Two members of SEPTA's police force have been suspended for their social media posts at the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol. The suspensions follow an internal investigation by SEPTA.
Two sergeants from SEPTA Transit Police Department are being suspended without pay for three days each for what the agency calls inappropriate social media posts related to the riots in Washington.
The two — who were not publicly named — were among seven SEPTA police officers who traveled to Washington. According to a statement from SEPTA, an internal investigation showed none of the seven were involved in storming the Capitol. However, the Police Board of Inquiry determined that the two sergeants' social media posts "displayed poor judgment" and "could be interpreted as supporting the actions of rioters."
The sergeants have the right to appeal the suspensions, under SEPTA policy. A SEPTA spokesman says the investigation determined no wrongdoing among the other five officers in D.C.
