2 teens in critical condition after shooting in Southwest Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsreadio) — Two teenage boys are in critical condition after being shot in the Kingsessing section of the city Thursday.

Around 5 p.m., a 16-year-old and a 14-year-old were each shot while they were outside near the corner of 54th Street and Willows Avenue, according to police.

The 16-year-old was shot in the head and is in critical condition; the 14-year-old was shot in the right side of his body and is in critical, but stable, condition, police say.

Police said late Thursday night that a white car pulled up, and one or two people fired. The vehicle involved may have had tinted windows, but police did not have the make or model of the vehicle.

This is two days after a group of five gunmen opened fire on a group of student athletes at Roxborough High School, killing one and wounding four others.

Just Thursday morning, Boys' Latin Charter Middle School and High School in West Philadelphia were on lockdown after a middle school student was spotted on a bus bringing a loaded gun magazine to school in his backpack.

No weapons were recovered from the Kingsessing incident, and no arrests have been made, police said.
