DOVER, Del. (KYW Newsradio) — A 14-year-old boy is dead, and a 16-year-old is seriously injured after their e-bike crashed into a school bus Friday afternoon in Delaware.

Delaware State Police say two teenagers were traveling at a high rate of speed in Dover around 4 p.m., when they rammed into the passenger side of a school bus attempting to make a right-hand turn off West Lebanon Road onto Royal Grant Way.

The teens were traveling in a bike lane on the sidewalk, but blew through a stop sign at the Royal Grant Way intersection and collided with the bus, authorities said.

Police said the 14-year-old, who was a passenger on the bike, died at the hospital. The 16-year-old who was operating the bike is still in the hospital with serious injuries. They say neither was wearing a helmet.

Neither the 75-year-old bus driver nor any of the 21 kids aboard the bus were injured.

Police shut down the portion of West Lebanon Road where the accident happened for four hours Friday night.
