PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police say a crew of men used an assault-style rifle to rob someone in Center City early Friday morning. It’s the second robbery of its kind in less than one week.
Just before 2 a.m., police said two masked men hopped out of a light-colored sedan and stopped a 23-year-old man who was walking with his friends near 15th and Sansom streets.
They held the 23-year-old at gunpoint — one with an AR-15-style rifle; the other with a handgun — and ripped off two gold chains from his neck, then demanded his wristwatch.
Police say the crew then got back in the car and fled westbound.
On Sunday, Aug. 23, three masked men dressed in black pulled up to 15th and Locust streets in a gray Hyundai, hopped out and ambushed three people who were chatting outside a bar. Police have not said if the two incidents are connected.
