PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Officials are investigating whether a shooting at a large North Philadelphia gathering Sunday is connected with a hit-and-run involving a police officer.

Police say a driver ran a red light at 18th and Diamond streets around 1:30 a.m., hit an off-duty police officer’s car and drove off.

Preliminary reports indicate the driver was likely fleeing a shooting that happened around the same time along the 2200 block of Edgely Street, near Diamond Street. Several men opened fire at what police say was a large gathering in the courtyard of a nearby housing complex.

A man was shot in the back and leg, and an adult woman and a boy were also injured. All three were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, where they are listed in stable condition.

About 20 shell casings were found at the scene.

The officer was transported to a nearby hospital, where officials say he’s stable. Officials have since recovered the car used in the hit-and-run. They say it has a bullet hole in the windshield
