PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Three Philadelphia men were arrested and charged in connection with a home invasion and robbery on the Main Line earlier this year, where they allegedly "tormented" the occupants for hours.
The Chester County District Attorney's Office charged 23-year-old Julio Mendoza, 20-year-old Louis Armstrong, and 21-year-old Axel Reyes each with burglary, robbery, kidnapping, assault, and firearms offenses.
Prosecutors said residents of a Berwyn home woke up on Jan. 8 to a "terrifying" scenario: armed intruders inside their home. The suspects tied up the homeowners in their attic for several hours and threatened them, authorities said. They used a photo of the couple's daughter to suggest she had been taken hostage, even though she never was.
The men eventually fled with thousands of dollars in cash and jewelry, as well as the couple's Mercedes.
Chester County District Attorney Christopher de Barrena-Sarobe called the suspects "flagrant," as investigators found pictures on their smartphones that showed the men posing with cash and other stolen items.
The couple was not physically harmed in the ordeal.
Investigators believe the suspects could have been involved in other similar crimes. Anyone with information is asked to contact Easttown Township Detectives at 610-341-9780 or Chester County Detectives at 610-344-6886.
